The guys at Primitive Technology never cease to amaze us with their ingenuity and this video is no exception; we are all about it. If you ever need to build a tiled roof hut of mud and clay in the wilderness with no modern tools, watching this video will give you a pretty solid foundation of knowing what to do.

Watch the amazing process unfold from scratch. Also consider that this is no simple or timely endeavor – it took the man in the video months (102 days, losing 36 to rain) to see this construction through from start to finish.

While we think it’s amazing and important to be able to pull something like this off, never be afraid to make life a little easier with simple technology or tools; many of which are available in our store. That being said, for the time it takes to create mud walls, which if not considered accordingly, can (and will) fall victim to the elements in little time. Learn how to make bricks, or how to make concrete, and you could be taking primitive construction technology to the next level.

If you can’t get your hands on modern tools or building material; always remember to use what you have at your disposal. If you have dirt, water and trees, by all means build something like this. If you don’t have wood, consider building a house from sod. If you are in a frozen climate where even grass won’t grow, consider building an igloo instead. If you are in the woods and have the kind of materials you will find there, build a nice tiled roof hut just like this guy. The real lesson here is to make the absolute best with what you have available, and the guy in the video is doing just that.

Always have a plan before you start; this guy spent his first 10 days just chopping wood and carving it up to build a frame. Never expect instant results, and certainly don’t expect anything without a solid degree of planning. Architecture 101, bro.
